Autistic Grievance
This grievance is on behalf of all Autistic people. The “autism solution” that we as a country and a nation currently employ have landed an entire generation of “people with autism” in restrictive institutional care with a de-facto subhuman rights. It begins in early childhood with crippling exploitative interventions and commonly continues with segregation in special ed., and isolation and captivity through the rest of their life [National Council on Disability].
We implore you to read our Grievance and to ask yourself these simple questions:
- Should we as society give a newborn the best opportunity to grow up a free human being, even as this baby has just been diagnosed with ASD?
- Are the children and youth lingering in our ‘“autism solution’ really given an opportunity to become free men and women with our policy of intervention, segregation, and discriminatory special practices; are these children becoming free men and women? [according to the glaring facts it’s not what’s happening].
- Are we going to perpetuate the mired in prejudice and stigma law of the past which in our day serves to allow the segregation and captivity of autistic people and other people with developmental disabilities?
We are asking that the opportunity be given to every child, even babies ‘with autism’ to grow up to be a free man or a woman [the expression ‘free man or a woman’ implies all genders and variations of humanity] – a human with a free will [given us by our Creator if you are believer].
It takes integrity to see the “autism solution” for what it is – shameful, wasteful, and tragic. We ask that you find this Integrity.
It takes courage to change things. We ask that you find this Courage.
Humanity, we seek your support on behalf of all the Autistic people for whom the justice hasn’t been served and the blessings of liberty had been withheld. Wake up People – we need your support!
